Who we are

whstl (“we”, “us”) runs the whstl app on iPhone, Android and the web, and this website. Questions about your data go to hello@whstl.app.

What we collect

Your account

  • Your email address, to sign you in with a one-time code.
  • Your name, as you or your club enter it.
  • Your appearance and notification choices.

What your club records

  • Your place in the squad: your teams and your role in the club.
  • Training sessions, your replies (In, Late or Out, and when you’ll arrive) and your attendance.
  • Details a club keeps for its sport, such as positions or roles. Cricket clubs that connect Play Cricket also bring in their public team and player listings.

Your devices

  • A push address for each device that allows notifications: an Expo push token on iPhone and Android, or a web push subscription in a browser.
  • A random ID the app creates when it’s installed, so we know which device is which, and which players and alerts each device follows.
  • Whether notifications are allowed on each device, so your club knows when a reminder can’t reach you.
  • Your IP address and browser or device type when you sign in, to keep accounts secure and to limit repeated sign-in attempts.

Enquiries

What you send through Get started: your name, email, club, sport and message.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.
  • We don’t use analytics or tracking tools in the app or on this website.
  • The only cookie is the one that keeps you signed in to the web app. This website sets none.

How we use it

  • To run the app: your schedule, replies, plans and attendance.
  • To send reminders and updates by push notification.
  • To email you sign-in codes, club invitations and account deletion codes.
  • To keep the service secure and working.
  • To reply to enquiries and support requests.

Who can see it

  • Your club’s admins and coaches see the squad, replies and attendance for the teams they run.
  • You see your own schedule and replies, and those of players you manage.
  • Our team, when it’s needed to support your club or keep the service running.

We use these providers to run whstl, and they handle data only on our behalf:

  • Vercel, which hosts the app and this website.
  • Neon, our database.
  • Resend, which sends our emails.
  • Expo, Apple and Google, which deliver push notifications.
  • Discord, where our team receives enquiries.
  • Cloudflare, which runs our domain and forwards email sent to us.

Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and your club’s records while they are in use. When you or your club ask us to delete them, we do so within 30 days. Enquiries are kept only as long as we need them to reply and set your club up.

Your choices

  • Turn notifications on or off in the app at any time, for each player on each device.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it.
  • Delete your account in the app, next to Sign out. See Delete your account.

If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, tell us first at hello@whstl.app. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Junior players

Clubs add junior players to their squads. A parent or guardian can manage a junior’s replies and notifications from their own account.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and its date. For a significant change, we’ll tell you in the app or by email.
